Soon after their return from Ottawa, a deputation of ladies from the Local Council called on the Hamilton Board of Education. Adelaide read a paper she had prepared with Mrs. Papps, which began by reiterating the National Council's approval of the introduction of domestic science classes in public schools. She explained that the women had no intention of lowering the standards of the school curriculum by removing necessary subjects in order to make room for domestic science.

In winning the support of the National Council on the subject of domestic science, Adelaide created a powerful network which would help prepare the way for its introduction in the school systems of Canada. At the very least, the women would discuss the events of the convention with friends and colleagues on their return home. At best, they would begin to make demands for programmes in their own areas, where women like Adelaide were already breaking ground in domestic science education. In either case, they helped further the cause of domestic science, a cause which would bring Adelaide considerable public recognition.

Being an entirely new feature in women's work in Canada, it has made those who have been working along their own special line view with suspicion any innovation in the way of a new organization for the purpose of federation, and as' 'there is no one so blind as those who will not see/' the task of its promoters has been no sinecure. In order to bring the matter more prominently before the women of Hamilton arrangements are being made for the President — that queen among women — Her Excellency Lady Aberdeen, to give an address on the subject in the near 37 future, and when one considers the opportunity thus provided for meeting and learning some of the charming qualities possessed by the Vice Regal Lady of Canada, and who has already won a place in the hearts of true women of the land such as none of her predecessors ever approached, this in itself is sufficient proof of the desirability of a National Council....
