Resistance to this opened the door to extremist political parties, including the National Socialists. Political instability increased, paving the way for Hitler’s takeover of power. Plunged into poverty and frustration, looking for someone to blame, and goaded by their leaders, the German people began to attribute their misfortunes to the Jewish population.
